Maintenance Mistakes – Watch Out for These

# 1 – Not Checking Chemical Levels Enough

It is easy to get distracted and forget about taking care of your pool, but not checking chemical levels is going to allow your pool to get out of whack. You want to make sure that your pool is checked at least 2 times during the summer and at least 1 time during the winter.

#2 – Not Checking TDS or Calcium

You should always make sure to check the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) or calcium hardness regularly. For TDS you should check it every 6 months and for calcium hardness, you need to do that every month. These two things affect your water balance. Water balance is different from sanitation but it is related to it.

#3 – Improper pH

Do not allow pH to get over 8.0. When you get to 8.5, chlorine is only 10% active. Get your pH to 7.0 and it is around 73% active. Even getting it to 7.5 will allow you to have the chlorine at 50-60% active. Having proper pH, you are going to be able to have the full potential of the chlorine that is in the pool.

#4 – Not Washing Down the Walls and Tiles

Your pool needs to have the walls and tiles washed down and if you don’t do it often enough, that is a major mistake. Brush down your walls regularly and this will help you stay away from algae problems. If you do not do a good job of keeping your tile clean, you are going to have problems with calcification and have to have specialists come to take it off.

Pool Maintenance Mistakes – Can You Come Back?

If you made any of the above maintenance mistakes, you may be worried that you have ruined something in your pool and caused problems that cannot be taken back. The truth is that, while you may have to pay professionals some money to get it back to how it should be unless you just did something very wrong, you should be good to go.

Make sure that you do not make the same maintenance mistakes twice and you take good care of your pool. You paid good money to have it put in place and you want to make sure that it doesn’t go down the drain. Pun intended.

If you aren’t sure how to take care of your pool and how to do things properly, all you have to do is speak to the person that helped you put your pool in and ask for help. They will be more than glad to help you with any referrals and service needs you might have in order to keep your pool at its full potential. Instead of waiting for things to get worse, make sure that you get things taken care of right away.
